(More customer reviews)I wanted a multipurpose condenser to use on an acoustic guitar and drum set along with vocals and this mic did not let me down! It's so true to sound that I prefer to mic my Ovation acoustic rather than plug it in at all. For vocals it is smooth, clear and reliable. With this mic through my M-Audio ProFire 610, I hardly have to use any of my utilities to "clean up" the sound (i.e. compression, noise gate, EQ, etc), and if I do it is minimal. Straight to the track sounds great! The multipattern option is very useful if you want to do some ambient mic-ing or get creative. It also has a low end cut off switch (which I actually only use for vocals), and a -10db pad for mic-ing instruments with high pressure sound like drums or brass. I gave my amp some natural sounding delay and reverb by pointing it at a plaster wall with a foot of space and putting the mic between it on the figure 8 setting. I can mic an entire drum set with the omni cardioid setting (in the right spot), and for everything else the hypercardioid setting works great. It sounds phenomenal for the price of $150. My only gripe is that the mount it came with is kind of shoddy and doesn't hold very well and tends to strip which is a bad long term problem which is why I gave it 4 stars. But I bought a shockmount with it so I hardly use it anyway. Although this mic would be very good for pod casting you probably wouldn't need the multipattern option. That being said, anyone looking for an affordable, great sounding condenser to use in multiple applications, or even a starter condenser mic, look no further. And remember, as with most condensers make sure you have phantom power!
