(More customer reviews)I just needed a way to connect a standard Shure SM58 mic to my Canon Vixia HD camera which only has 1/8 mic inputs. It did the trick. However if you are using a stereo mic, you may need another converter as this one is designed to takes a mono mic (like the Shure SM58) and split input equally between the two channels for stereo recording like most HD cameras provide. It would probably work, just no real stereo effect. (On the other hand, if you used a stereo mic XLR converter with the SM58 you'd probably end up with only one channel of sound)
Also you need to secure the XLR connector end with tie wrap or gaffer tape to your tripod or the camera case as [I believe] over time it could work on your 1/8 input dangling free.
