I do a lot of field recording of acoustic bands (mostly jazz - horns, piano and/or guitar, string bass, etc.) and have at least a couple dozen microphone cables. After checking all my cables, this tester revealed two cables with reversed polarity between pins 1 and 2 and one cable with an open conductor in the cable itself. I was able to save the reversed polarity cables by rewiring one of the connectors on each cable (I simply disposed of the cable with the open conductor). Without this tester, I would not have known about the reverse polarity cables and most likely have ended up recording a field project with an out of phase input and gone nuts later trying to figure it out. If you do any on-site field recording/sound reinforcement work, consider this tester an excellent investment.
