(More customer reviews)I'm a professional musician from way back and have gone through probably five or six incarnations of PA's for playing gigs at various venues. Mixers, amps, speakers, both powered and not, even battery-powered speakers for the occasional outdoor gig where there's no plug for power. I play guitar and piano, and my wife and I both sing. We have some small speakers for small-area gigs, but always have to run our mikes through a small mixer to get some effects on our voices. I've always done the sound myself, but occasionally my wife does a gig without me, say with a piano and bass player, and she's expected to bring her own PA for sound.
So we needed something simple. This Roland is simplicity itself. I mean, you plug your mike cord into the Roland input, switch on the built-in effects, and start singing. If I'm playing with her, I can put my own mike into it, plus my guitar and piano. It's as simple as that.
Granted, the effects are not complicated. I'd say it's pretty much straight-ahead reverb, but the difference between "dry" and effects-treated vocals is night and day. The sound is very nice, and powerful. It's got tremendous volume and clarity. They've packed four speakers into the one unit. It's absolutely perfect for a coffeehouse, truly and honestly. It's so simple and good that I'm very excited and enthusiastic to write a review for it.
I still have my Bose tower getup for larger gigs/venues, but I sold off everything else we had. It's either large or small, and I have the perfect thing for both. I can't recommend this unit enough. Feel confident that if you buy this, you're going to be very happy.
