I bought the DMP-2 to use as a portable phantom power supply for two AT-2021 mics, and pre amp for a Tascam DR-07. It failed miserably at both tasks. I took this set-up to a music festival to record several bands and every recording came out with very distorted audio. After the first couple of recordings I thought that perhaps the battery I was using didn't have a full charge, even though the battery was fresh out of the package. But even after trying several more new batteries I still got poor recording results. I had used the AT-2021s and DR-07 with other equipment with no problems, so I know the fault wasn't with that part of the recording chain. The DMP-2 can't handle even moderately loud volume levels. Needless to say, all my recordings from the festival were completely useless because of this device.
I was on a budget when I bought this and unfortunately I got what I paid for: a cheap piece of junk. There's a reason this thing is cheap! If it was possible to rate this unit with zero stars I would. If you're just looking for a good inexpensive dual phantom power supply consider the Rolls PB224 Dual Battery Powered Phantom Adapter. I've used one several times and they work great, and it will power two mics at 48 volts for many hours on two 9 volt batteries.
In the meantime I'm still searching for a good inexpensive portable pre amp/phantom power supply for less then $200. I'm looking into some of the computer audio interface units such as the Tascam US-200 USB Audio Interface, 2-in/4-out. A lot of these computer audio devices can be set-up to run off of portable battery power with a little ingenuity.
Save your money and invest in something better then the DMP-2. You'll be glad you did!
