(More customer reviews)As a film and video director, I bought this to record voice-over for clients who are on a budget so I wouldn't have to send them to my usual recording studio. I'm using a $200 Audio Technica studio condenser mic. The difference between using the box and working in an open room is HUGE, both in terms of ambient noise reduction and reverb elimination. It's also worth noting that the difference in room reverb presence between placing your mouth right up to the opening and standing a foot or two away while facing to the side is very slightly noticeable, but not a deal breaker. This is important because you may need to read from a page while recording voice, which you can't do with your face shoved in the box. If you're a singer or speaker who knows all your lines and stay close, you can expect an even warmer, richer sound.
I plan to experiment with placing a couple of portable acoustic insulation panels behind the voice talent to see if this cleans up the last of the room reverb, which I suspect it will, but again, it's fine tuning, at this point.
This unit looks nice and is well constructed, so I don't mind using it front of clients, and it turned my downtown office into an acceptable recording studio.
I was on a deadline to receive this unit for a recording session. Shipping was very prompt, and the manufacturer was friendly and responsive to my queries.
For the money, I give it two thumbs up.
