(More customer reviews)This is a decent mic for it's price. Let's start off with what it's not. It's not and SM58, which is the industry standard vocal microphone, but the SM58 is twice the price. This is a good old-fashioned Shure professional quality mic in a metal case with a real transformer in the handle, just like the SM58 has. Where it's made cheaper is the on/off switch is an ordinary slide switch instead of the magnetic switch used on the higher end models, and the shock suppression of the cartridge isn't made as well either, so there's more handling noise as people take them out of the stand clip.
I use these mics professionally where I don't want my better mics being abused by kids. They take a beating on stage and keep on working. They sound okay, much like an SM58, gain before feedback is fine, and so far nobody has questioned their quality or made any disparaging remarks about them, which they would for the PG series at the same price, because everybody knows the PG series are cheap, but they don't generally know these mics.
I loaned a bunch of these mics to some medical students who were putting on a show at a professional theater in the city center, and were saving money by not hiring the sound company's mics. The sound guy was happy to use them on stage for the show and they were clear and effective for the varied vocal styles in a review show with an audience in the 800-1000 people size. I wouldn't have loaned out my better mics, and they didn't need anything better than this.
They look decent too.
