After buying this, I think there is no need to get a telescoping boom, as the boom on this can slide to adjust to almost any position before tightening in place. If your base is sturdy enough, this will essentially serve the purpose of a telescoping boom.
The build quality is really good. The metal handle turns to tighten the angle in place, while a smaller plastic knob tightens a metal screw to fix the length. All the pieces are metal except for the handle in back, and a couple of rings on the tube where the plastic knob is. There is also a rubber gasket where the angle tightens. The base attachment and pole/pole guide are metal. I'm satisfied, and a great price. It should last forever.
